Your support has been incredible, truly mind blowing actually. Thank you especially to those that have shared my patches on Facebook groups and forums. You doing that helps a small creator like me tremendously, honestly more than you know. If you like the presets please post your impressions online and if possible tag me (@Tanner Yates on FB) so that I can thank you personally. Any help I can get to spread the word is awesome!

Patch Details:

I set out to create an amazing sounding HX Stomp preset pack based around the Plexi sound and in the process realized the Stomp offered so many Plexi-ish amp varieties that I couldn’t just settle on one…..so I decided to include two different amp models! This pack includes presets using the Plexi Bright amp model and the Park 75 Bright amp model. Both offer something a little different and are set to give you different starting points in gain and tone.

There are 10 (!) total presets included in this pack.

Because the HX Stomp can be utilized in such a wide variety of setups and signal chains I decided to create several different preset templates to cover the most popular use cases for the HX stomp. Just like all of my Yeatzee Guitar amp packs, every preset will have two different versions labeled “H” and “S” for “humbuckers” and “single coils.”

The three templates include:

  1. “RVB”
    1. Short for “reverb”, this version features the amp and IR with a paired down version of my unique “ModVerb” setup found in my full helix patches. I spent some time trying to find the best compromise with the HX Stomp’s block limitations and am quite pleased with how it turned out! In addition this preset also features a general all purpose delay great for fattening up rhythm or lifting up leads.
  2. “LOOP”
    1. Short for “FX Loop”, this version is the same as the RVB template except it replaces the delay with a stereo FX Loop for hooking up stereo effects pedals to the end of your signal chain.
  3. “Plexi P75”
    1. This template features the Plexi and P75 amp models setup in stereo for running stereo effects into the front input of the stomp. This gives a unique sound compared to stereo effects after the amp, it is less predictable and less clean but many prefer the way reverb and delay gets gritty into the front of the amp. This version also includes a general purpose reverb.

In addition, because the HX Stomp can be incorporated into a nearly unlimited number of setups and use cases there’s no way I can make a preset for every situation. What I can do however is give you building blocks to use to build your own perfect preset using mine as the foundation. Included in the Readme are my suggested settings for various effect blocks (6 overdrives, 2 modulation, 2 delays, 1 compressor) I would recommend pairing with my amp settings to fit your unique individual rig.

Stock Cabs:

I tend to prefer IR’s for a few different reasons. In particular they use less DSP so you can fit more in a preset, and they tend to sound and feel more realistic to me. The biggest difference to my ears is the midrange, the upper upper treble frequencies, and the detail in the low end. With that being said, great tone can still be had with stock cabs and this preset pack is no different. I demo’d all of the stock cabs and was impressed with how close I was able to get the stock cab to my favorite 4×12 IR’s. I decided to make every preset in this pack come with the stock cab block setup by default. It’s that close to my favorite equivalent IR’s!

IR Cabs:

Despite really enjoying the stock cabs, there are some definite benefits that come from IR’s. It’s hard to describe but each of the below IR’s offered something a little different that I enjoyed versus the stock cab included with the presets. I tested every IR I could find to pick the best ones to recommend and ultimately my favorites are listed below (will update as I try new IR’s and find more I like).

  • OH 412 MRBW GNR M25 OH1/2
    • https://www.ownhammer.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=186&products_id=438
    • My favorite IR overall for this preset comes from this pack from Ownhammer. Specifically I really enjoyed the OH2-05 mix
    • These IR’s have a sense of space to them that I enjoy and are just really well rounded. The upgrade between this and the Redwirez IR’s are the mixes of multiple mic’s to get a little more fine tuned of a cab tone. I prefer the OH 1 or OH 2 mixes overall and I recommend sticking with those two at first and trying out the different options within the OH1/2 mixes to find the sweetspot between brightness and fullness for your particular guitar.
  • OH 412 MRBW M75-GNR
  • Redwirez Marshall1960A-G12Ms-R121-CapOffAxis-0.5in
    • A very realistic sounding IR with top end bite / sizzle and a full bottom end with a slight scoop in the mids.
  • Redwirez Marshall1960A-G12Ms-SM7-Cone-1in
    • This IR features that dynamic mic sound with a unique full mid range. Depending on your guitar / low end preferences try out the 0-3in versions.
  • Redwirez Marshall1960A-G12Ms-SM57-Coneedge-0.5in
    • The classic SM57 sound is captured with this IR pretty well. It doesn’t have the rounded edges of the R121 and offers a different flavor mid range to the SM7. It’s a little more aggressive which could work better in a mix. If it’s too thin or has too much low end for your guitar try the 0-3in versions or the “cone-1in” version.

*All Redwirez IR’s recommended above came from their FREE pack, which I learned they changed to include different impulse responses than the original. Still worth grabbing their free pack to check out: https://redwirez.com/pages/the-marshall-1960a-ir-pack

It’s important to note that these IR’s are not requirements, and I whole heatedly recommend you try out your existing impulse responses first (but be prepared to make EQ adjustments to match your specific IR’s, they make a massive difference in tone). Give the stock cabs a go as well, in a mix they cut well! If it sounds good, it is good, regardless of what type of cab or brand of IR you use. The only critical factor with impulse responses is to NOT mix two different IR’s made by different makers in the stereo Plexi P75 presets. There’s a high likelihood they will be slightly out of phase from each other causing weird effects to the tone. Always use two from the same company for this reason.

Thanks so much for the support, I hope you enjoy the patch!
